We caught another couple of awesome scenes at Disney's D23 conference, for Alan Taylor's sequel "Thor: The Dark World". The second installment will reunite us with Chris Hemsworth as the titular character, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, and many more familiar faces. And then of course, there's Loki. Played by the wonderful and talented Tom Hiddleston, it's safe to say Loki has become one of the most beloved villains of the comic book phenomena and our generation.
What could Taylor and Kevin Feige do in response to the immense love of this character? Reshoot more scenes of Loki, of course. Supply and demand at it's finest. They are also adding more of Kat Denning's to the mix in her role as Darcy.
On adding the scenes, Taylor stated, "We're doing full scenes, scenes that were not in the movie before. We're adding scenes, creating scenes, writing scenes for the first time....We realized how well Loki was working in the movie, and we wanted to do more with him. So it was that kind of thing, it was like, 'Oh, we could do this, we could jam this in here because he's such a wonderful guy to watch do his stuff.'"
Fans and critics alike tend to wonder about the motives when reshoots happen so close to the release date. Was the film not solid enough without them? We are a mere three months away which is certainly cutting it close, by post-production standards. Taylor urges us not to worry, however.
"Kevin Feige's always trying to make the film better, see if he can push it up," said Taylor. "I saw them do this on Iron Man 3, I saw them do it on Marvel's The Avengers; they have to kind of pry it out of Marvel's hands and put it up on screens because he never wants to stop improving things, so that's the phase we're in right now."
