Joss Whedon Explains His Take on ULTRON in His AVENGERS Sequel

By AMC August 22, 2013

Ever since the big announcement at Comic Con that Joss Whedon's "Avengers" sequel would be titled "The Avengers: Age of Ultron", we've been waiting on pins and needles for more information about the next installment. We previously learned that he would introduce Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, and that Hank Pym (known as Ant-Man) would not be the originator of the evil robot, like he was in the comics.

Many fans were disappointed that Ant-Man would not be in the film, but at least we have Edgar Wright's film underway. But what exactly does Whedon have in mind in regards to the evil Ultron? He recently shed some light on the direction he wants to take with the character.

"I knew right away what I wanted to do with him," Whedon said. "He’s always trying to destroy the Avengers, goddamn it, he’s got a bee in his bonnet. He’s not a happy guy, which means he’s an interesting guy. He’s got pain. And the way that manifests is not going to be standard robot stuff. So we’ll take away some of those powers because at some point everybody becomes magic, and I already have someone [a new character, Scarlet Witch] who’s a witch."

Whedon added that he will still "ground [the character] while still evoking that guy. As a character I love [Ultron], because he’s so pissed off."

I adore Whedon and I think it's safe to say we can trust our beloved comic book properties in his more than capable hands.
