We all love Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. Robert Downey Jr. loves Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. But as it stands now, the actor has only signed on for two more "Avengers" films with Joss Whedon at the helm and no more standalone films. We've been asking the question of who should replace the charming actor for months now. Did someone just throw their own name in the ring?
Mark Wahlberg has come a long way from his pant dropping stunts as a musician, and is now considered a very diverse and talented actor in Hollywood. He's done comedy and has shined in such films as "Ted", and we certainly know he is great in action, which can currently be seen in "2Guns" and Michael Bay's upcoming "Transformers 4". Does the actor now have his sights set on becoming the next billionaire, playboy, philanthropist?
In a recent interview, Wahlberg stated, "I would like to take over the 'Iron Man' franchise for Robert Downey [but] it’s one of those things where I kind of like playing real people, [so] I’ve never been asked."
Wahlberg then went on to rant about the state of films today and how too many of them over-utilized CGI effects:
"You know, there’s so many effects-driven movies. What people have a tendency to forget, because you look at a lot of the trailers and the summer movies that came out… they all look very similar. Certainly all the end of the world movies. It’s like you can only do so much with effects. I don’t think any person sitting at home watching a television spot, a 15-second spot or a 30 second spot, is gonna say ‘Oh I’m gonna go see a movie because I haven’t seen that!’ You’ve seen it all before. People haven’t been wowed by effects since ‘Jurassic Park’ or ‘Perfect Storm’ with the wave, you know? It’s like now everybody does everything. It’s all kind of the same sh*t. They’re recycling a lot of the stuff."
Well there you have it. Do you think Wahlberg would make a good Iron Man? Let us know in the comments section below!
