Vin Diesel to Voice Groot in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY?

By AMC August 13, 2013

It's been quite the mystery figuring out what Marvel character (or voice) actor Vin Diesel will be portraying, ever since he teased on his social channels that he met with the Marvel team. He has put images of such characters as Giant Man on his Facebook page, proving to be quite the pro at misdirection. Now, another picture has popped up on Diesel's Facebook page, and it is none other than Groot from "Guardians of the Galaxy".

For those less familiar with the character, Groot is a plant monster from the Floral Colossus species of aliens. In layman's terms, he's basically a big, fierce walking and talking tree. While nothing has been confirmed by Disney or Marvel at this time, the picture was enough to once again drive fans wild.

While in the comics, Groot only spoke in his native tongue, it sounded like he kept saying "I am Groot" to the untrained ear. It is unknown at this time if Gunn will deviate from the comics and give the character some more speaking lines. Diesel certainly has a distinctive and cool voice, so why not portray a talking tree in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

This would seemingly make sense as James Gunn's production is already heavily underway, so they definitely need to figure out who will voice Groot as well as Rocket Raccoon. They are only voices however, so I suppose they could be added in last minute.

"Guardians of the Galaxy" will hit AMC Theatres on August 1st, 2014.
