Elizabeth Olsen, the youngest sister of the twin empire of Mary-Kate and Ashley, has emerged as one of the most exciting young stars to watch in years. With her bold and raw portrayal as Martha in the dark indie film "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and her upcoming role in the also twisted "Oldboy" remake, she is not afraid to take risk and explore deep emotions. But what's next for the indie darling you ask? Just a superhero film of monumental proportions.
It was reported when Bradley Cooper was in talks with Marvel to voice the now confirmed role of Rocket Raccoon, that Olsen was also speaking with Marvel about joining one of their projects. Now thanks to Samuel L. Jackson, who plays Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we might finally have a confirmation about who she will be playing.
On the upcoming Joss Whedon sequel "Avengers: Age of Ultron", Jackson stated, "I don’t think we begin shooting before March of next year. I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen [who will play the Scarlet Witch], but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script."
We knew the sibling duo Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver were being added to the mix, and that Aaron Taylor-Johnson ("Kick-Ass") was being eyed at to play Quicksilver. If Olsen is confirmed to play Scarlet Witch, aesthetically I could see the two resembling each other with the help of a little movie magic.
Olsen was previously asked if she would be interested in joining a Marvel film, and she stated, "I’ve been rumored about lots of things [so] I don’t know…To be part of [The Avengers]? Sure. I grew up loving comic books and sci-fi…I think those movies are great. I would love to do something like that."
Some of the biggest stars in Hollywood are joining the ranks of superhero films these days, so it makes sense that one of the brightest young stars out there right now, would also be interested.
