GRAVITY Becomes Largest October Opening in Box-Office History

By AMC October 8, 2013

A whole lot of people wanted to get lost in space this weekend with the release of Alfonso Cuarón's "Gravity". The film opened at an impressive $55 million at the weekend box-office, setting a new record for the largest October release to date. The film dethroned "Paranormal Activity" which previously held this honor, bringing in $52 million in 2011.

In addition to acquiring bragging rights for Warner Bros., this film also marks the largest opening for stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. Cuarón has some incredibly large openings under his belt. Two words; "Harry Potter". But this was indeed a passion project of his, so it's incredible to see it receive both the critical and monetary success that it deserves.

With the help of cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki and visual effects supervisor Tim Webber, the trio tried to bring us a depiction of space like we've never seen it before. Their vision successfully brought audiences into the beauty as well as terror of being alone in space, with no one to hear you scream.
