The wonderful Guillermo del Toro brought us his sci-fi monster and robot tale "Pacific Rim", which just hit the $400 million mark at the worldwide box office. If that doesn't justify a sequel, I don't know what does. So luckily the powers that be agree and it's been reported that a sequel script is indeed in the works.
In a recent interview to promote the blu-ray release, del Toro revealed that he and screenwriter Travis Beachman are indeed working on continuing the story. Del Toro stated, "We are writing the sequel. Travis Beacham and I are writing, so that is active. The decision to greenlight or not, that’s definitely above my pay rate."
While the confirmation of a sequel script is indeed good news to fans of the original, del Toro did accurately point out that it does not mean the film will actually come to fruition. While DVD sales are nowhere near where they used to be with the technological advancements being where they are today, it certainly won't hurt building on that already impressive total.
