It comes as no surprise that a sequel is on the way for "World War Z" given the steady box office numbers and it marking the largest opening of any Brad Pitt film. It also comes as no surprise that director Marc Forster will not be returning for the sequel alongside Pitt and his production company, Plan B Entertainment.
While promoting his new film "12 Years a Slave", Pitt also briefly spoke about the zombie sequel. He stated, "Plan B also is developing a sequel to Z, which still is in its nascent stages, though director Marc Forster won't be back. ‘We are talking about it. We are going to investigate a script. We have a lot of ideas we will cull from. Nobody is writing just yet, but we are compiling our ideas.’"
There were very expensive reshoots and a whole variety of issues that occurred with the very expensive production, so it would have actually been more surprising if Forster was in fact going to return instead of bowing out.
Based on the popular book series from author Max Brooks, the movie is loosely based on the series, but mostly just adopts its name, according to those who have read it.
