Tom Hardy Confirmed to Play Elton John in ROCKETMAN Biopic

By Amirose Eisenbach October 24, 2013

We reported a couple of months ago that Tom Hardy was being eyed to play the eccentric and lovable Elton John in a biopic titled "Rocketman". Now it has been confirmed that the British actor is ditching his Bane ensemble and fighting gloves to play the legendary pop musician.

"Rocketman" will follow the piano-playing legend from the 70s when he made such hits as "Crocodile Rock" and "Candle in the Wind", through the course of his rise to fame, with such classics as "Bennie and the Jets and "Rocketman".

John is actively a part of the production and is on as an executive producer. That instills a solid amount of confidence that Hardy will do a solid job because you've got to believe John wouldn't do anything to tarnish his empire. John is re-recording several of his hits for the film and it will be interesting to see what kind of chops Hardy brings to the table as well.

Steven Hamiliton Shaw and David Furnish of Rocket Pictures and Lawrence Bender for Al Film are also producing.

In a recent interview and press release, Shaw stated the following, "Tom is a stellar talent who will add extraordinary depth and nuance in bringing Elton’s story to life. We are excited to have such a gifted actor on board, and equally excited to be in the hands of Peter Schlessel and the entire Focus Features team."

Schlessel of Focus Features had this to add, "Tom is quickly becoming known as one of the world's most versatile actors, and like others at the top of their craft, he has proven his ability to transform himself completely into the character or subject found in the material. We are confident that Tom will embody the physicality and spirit of Sir Elton. This, in conjunction with the creative team led by Michael and Rocket Pictures, will provide the foundation for something that will be a unique cinematic event."

John must be pretty excited about this as Hardy is a pretty good looking and talented guy. I can't wait to see how Hardy transforms into this role.
