We discussed how James Mangold and Hugh Jackman may be re-teaming for another "Wolverine" movie, after the success of their latest film venture "The Wolverine". The film racked up over $414 million at the worldwide box office, making it the second-highest grossing film within the "X-Men" franchise behind "X-Men: The Last Stand", which made over $459 million.
Jackman stated, "I was on the phone with Jim Mangold last night. There are some really cool ideas that I’m dying to tell you, but that would be giving away a secret that is not even [fully] formed yet."
With the release of Bryan Singer's upcoming "X-Men: Days of Future Past", it will mark the seventh time Jackman has appeared as the character. Apparently after that film releases, his contract with Fox is up, so it would have to be renegotiated in order to see him reprise the character again.
The interest is definitely intact however, as Jackman stated, "I do want to do it with Jim and with [producer] Lauren Shuler-Donner because we had such a great experience. I’m really proud of The Wolverine."
On the process, Jackman said, "I don’t want to dive into another one until we have a compelling reason to do another one. I love the character, he’s kind of like a best friend to me, and I don’t ever want to take [him] or the fans for granted.…I think we’ve got a great opportunity to make something really cool, but it has to be great. That’s what we’re all working toward."
I loved the dark and gritty tone set by Mangold and thought Jackman was more fierce than ever in the last installment. Hopefully he doesn't decide to hang up the claws and we get to see him as the superhero again.
