The biggest awards show for the entertainment industry and film fans is just around the corner. The Academy Awards celebrates everything from the best performances, to screenplays and everything in between. Now the Academy has revealed the 10 films that have been nominated for best visual effects.

It has been a visually impressive year for cinema and their list includes "Gravity", "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug", "Pacific Rim", "Elysium", "Iron Man 3", "The Lone Ranger", "Oblivion", "Star Trek Into Darkness", "Thor: The Dark World" and "World War Z".

All the films included definitely showed off some visually stunning landscapes and scenes but out of the list, "Gravity", "The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug" and "Thor: The Dark World" stand out the most.

Peter Jackson really knows how to make Middle-Earth so rich and vibrant in his "Lord of the Rings" and "Hobbit" films and Alan Taylor did a fantastic job bringing the beautiful and complex essence of the comic-book world of Asgard and the nine realms to the big-screen. The frontrunner in my humble opinion is Alfonso Cuarón's "Gravity", as what he did with light, sound and the impressive visuals of earth, really transported us like never before to be able to experience space with the astronauts themselves.

Out of the list, who would you like to see take the visual effects oscar home? Let us know in the comments section below!

I see one that's great enough to stand on his own in a flick and I see two generic Super Heroes below him played by descent actors that will suck of no fault of their own. DC Entertainment and Zack piss off Snyder have destroyed any chance of a good Superman flick. It's generic and badly delivered to screen. What a tragedy to finally get to see the big 3 on screen after all these years only to watch them in piss poor dark generic looking outfits and rewritten backgrounds. FAILURE! DC Entertainment needs to pull their heads out of their asses and give us something good besides Dark Knight and Batman. To my point GO MARVEL!!!!!! May we all be laughing at DC Comics in the end for playing this awful prank on the true fans.

Marvel has nothing to worry about. DC Entertainment has already killed Superman in this so called "Man of Steel" series of movies. Does anyone recall how the first one sucked? That movie in no way other then title had the tone of Superman. DC has shot themselves in the foot far before the release date against Marvel that knows how to build on charactors, respect them, and the fans. Before all this bull crap with revamping I was 100% behind DC Comics. They have proved one bad film over another that Batman is the only one in the JLA they can get right. This knockoff Superman is and was terrible! Wonder Woman will be just as bad or worse being that DC Comics likes to screw around with her origin and costume the most out of any DC charactor since creation. They simply just don't know what the heck they are doing or how to stay true to the roots of these heroes who have endured for 70 plus years. MOS2 may make it at the box office but mark my words it will not in any way be because it's a great flick. Just the hopefuls having to justify to themselves right and wrongs of the contents. It will suck! Line up for Captain America 3 and catch this flick in the red box.

I've got a Baby Ruth in my coat pocket somewhere... just waiting to eat it. Maybe I'll put in a blender on puree.
