We heard several months ago that James Cameron was aiming to make not two but three "Avatar" sequels to his record-breaking original. Cameron will be shooting the films back to back in New Zealand, which makes sense from both a logistical as well as financial standpoint. Now the director has given us a bit more insight into what to expect next.
At a recent press conference, Cameron discussed the first film and what to expect next, "It was very Jake-centric. His story seen through his eyes. We spread it around quite a bit more as we go forward. It’s really the story of his family, the family that he creates on Pandora. His extended family. So think of it as a family saga like The Godfather."
We've also hear murmurs of the next film being shot underwater but Cameron put that rumor to rest and said, "There’s a fair bit of underwater stuff. It’s been inaccurately said that the second film takes place underwater. That’s not true. There are underwater scenes and surface-water scenes having to do with indigenous ocean cultures that are distributed across the three films."
