We knew that the superhero movie trend wasn't going to slow down anytime soon and that D.C./Warner Bros. has had their work cut out for them since the success of Marvel's Cinematic Universe. With the announcement of both Batman (Ben Affleck) and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) joining Henry Cavill in Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" sequel, many wondered if this would still be Superman's movie or if it has secretly become a "Justice League" film. Now reports are hitting that it may still be Superman's film after all, as it looks like his greatest threat may be in the film.
According to Variety, Joaquin Phoenix is being eyed to play a villain in the upcoming "Superman Vs. Batman". While it hash't been officially confirmed yet, it's being speculated that he could be up for Lex Luthor.
Phoenix has been captivating audiences for years, with his ability to emotionally and physically transform into memorable characters. He has received critical acclaim by showcasing yet another vulnerable and incredible character in "Her", which was distributed by Warner Bros. So it's not too surprising if they also wanted to lock him down for another key role in their flagship property.
Phoenix has displayed the intelligence, the tortured soul and the calculating nature in film, needed to play a big figure like Lex Luthor. Personally, I think it's an incredibly inspired choice and I hope it pans out.
