Fans of Spider-Man were interested to learn that the current web-slinging superhero Andrew Garfield, is not currently attached to the fourth film, despite a release date already being slated. Now comes the news of two new spin-off films that fall within the Spider-Man umbrella.
Sony has made fans of Spider-Man's villains very happy as they have announced that both a "Sinister Six" and a "Venom" film are both on the way. Robert Orci and Alex Kurtzman will return, who helped pen the script for "The Amazing Spider-Man", and they have also employed the help of Jeff Pinker ("Lost"), Ed Solomon ("Now You See Me"), and Drew Goddard ("Cabin in the Woods").
Kurtzman, Orci and Pinker will be penning "The Amazing Spider-Man 3". Then the duo with the addition of Solomon instead of Pinker, will work on "Venom", with Kurtzman locked in to direct. Goddard, who made a splash with the acclaimed "Cabin in the Woods" with partner Joss Whedon, will be the main man overseeing "The Sinister Six".
Sony gave us a glimpse at their intention to make their upcoming films more villain heavy, so they certainly upheld that promise. I think expanding the Cinematic Universe of Spider-Man is an increibdly smart move on their part and I look forward to seeing how the pieces fall into place.
