In May, we'll be able to see Dane DeHaan portray Harry Osborn is Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2". The actor recently spoke out about the role in the film, which seems to embody a different tone than James Franco's character in Sam Raimi's films.
DeHaan stated, "When you first meet Harry he's just graduated from high school, and he has to come back to New York to help deal with Oscorp, and its legacy, and his father [Norman Osborn, played by Chris Cooper]. He also sees Peter Parker for the first time in a long time; they were childhood friends. So it's really about Harry having a friendship with Peter and an allegiance to Peter, but also being the heir apparent to Oscorp, and having to deal with that. "
While Webb's first film was great, showcasing Andrew Garfield as the new web-slinging superhero, it did present material that was already covered by Raimi. The introduction of the new villain's should help pave the way however, to make it feel like a new film franchise.
DeHaan continued, "It's becoming very obvious that all of these villains are originating from within Oscorp, in one way or the other. There are things that Harry feels he owes Peter, and things he needs from Peter, there are things he feels he needs from Spider-Man, and then there's his responsibility to Oscorp. It's a very complicated storyline, really cool and dynamic."
Regardless of how different DeHaan's Harry ends up being from Franco's, he is an undeniably incredible actor. His range and talent can be seen in such films as "Lawless" and "Chronicle" and he even stole the show from other big league actors such as Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling in "The Place Beyond the Pines". I'm looking forward to seeing what DeHaan does in a superhero flick.
