Director Joe Wright, who has directed such films as "Atonement", "Hanna" and "Pride and Prejudice", is currently working on his new film "Pan". Now it appears Wright has officially locked his villain in the form of "The Wolverine" himself, Hugh Jackman.
Jackman will play the villainous pirate Blackbeard. The other fierce pirate that we've all come to associate with this folklore, Captain James Hook, has also been cast. Garrett Hedlund, last seen in the Coen Bros' "Inside Llewyn Davis" and known for "Tron: Legacy", will star as Hook.
While the film is still currently untitled, it was announced to be moving up to the recently vacated "Superman Vs. Batman" date, and will hit theaters on July 17, 2015. This is just one film coming out that is based on the famous Peter Pan character, with Gary Ross also working on a "Peter and the Starcatchers" film.
Greg Silverman, Warner Bros. President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, stated the following on the announcement, "Hugh Jackman always delivers indelible performances that resonate with audiences. We know he will create a Blackbeard who will be a powerful presence in this original Peter Pan adventure."
Sue Kroll, President of Worldwide Marketing and International Distribution at WB, added the following, "There is a reason that Hugh is known and loved the world over. He is uncompromising in his dedication to every role, and we are all thrilled to be working with him again."
From singing his heart out in "Les Miserables" to his latest dramatic thriller "Prisoners", Jackman can certainly do anything. This seems like a very smart career move for him and I can't wait to see him go full villain.
