POINT BREAK Remake on the Way Starring Gerard Butler

We heard murmurs of a "Point Break" remake for some time now. Most people, including myself, were not too happy at the thought of remaking this 90s classic. But alas, it's definitely happening, and now the lead actor has been selected.

Gerard Butler will play Bodhi in the remake, originally played by the late Patrick Swayze in Kathryn Bigelow's version. I would have normally scoffed as this choice but having seen Butler play a surf bum rather well in "Riding Giants", I'm actually not too upset about it.

The real challenge will be to fill the shoes of Keanu Reeves' Johnny Utah character. Reeves' lacking acting abilities were a perfect fit for this character, who doubled as an FBI agent and undercover surfer. Since Reeves is still around and is acting again, I would image we will see some sort of cameo from him.

"Fast and the Furious" cinematographer and "Invisible" helmer Ericson Core, will direct the project. "Fast and Furious" definitely feels like a "Point Break" ripoff, so this does feel like a good fit. Although with a film as sacred to many as "Point Break", perhaps a more seasoned director would do it more justice, if it must be done at all.

Not many details have been released about the remake yet but is said that, "the film is set in the world of international extreme sports, and like the original involves an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a criminal ring."

We've heard rumors that surfing may not even be a focal point in the film, which I strongly feel would be a mistake. Only time will tell just how much they plan to stray away from the original.

Really like the look of it! The trailer has a menacing and dark tone to it, as LEE pointed out. Hopefully this won't be another Die Hard 5 case, awesome trailer but terrible film. Godzilla looks so much like it's 60 year old predecessor. I did like the 1999 Godzilla, just because the actors were awesome and it was cool to see another take on a legendary creature, but this film looks so much darker, almost forbidden. Can't wait till the middle of May!!
