Many jokes have been made from fanboys and critics alike, how female superheroes rarely get their own films. As pointed out, we are getting a walking and talking raccoon and tree on the big-screen before we get a Wonder Woman film? But with the success of female-leading action franchises like "The Hunger Games" and the upcoming hopeful with "Divergent", could the game be changing?
Scarlett Johansson has played the super sultry spy Black Widow for Marvel and has been seen in several films now within their cinematic universe. She will grace us on the big-screen again soon opposite Chris Evans as Captain America in "Captain America: The Winter Solider". But perhaps her interesting backstory is worth exploring more?
Marvel President Kevin Feige certainly thinks so, as he elaborated in a recent interview. Feige stated, "We start filming the next Avengers film at the end of March. [Black] Widow's part in that is very big. We learn more about her past and learn more about where she came from and how she became in that film. The notion of exploring that even further in her own film would be great, and we have some development work with that."
Some complain that Johansson isn't athletic enough to have her own standalone film as the character. Others don't seem to care because the actress is incredibly gorgeous and they wouldn't complain seeing her in her leather outfit for 2 hours. Regardless of your stance on the character personally, given the success of the MCU, I think it's about damn time they give a solo female superhero their own movie.
