Luke Bracey Cast as Johnny Utah in POINT BREAK Remake

By Amirose Eisenbach February 26, 2014

Following the news of Gerard Butler being cast as Bodhi in the "Point Break" remake, now comes word of the successor to Keanu Reeves' Johnny Utah. Luke Bracey, best known for "G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and "Monte Carlo", will star as the undercover FBI agent.

The film is being helmed by Ericson Core ("The Fast and the Furious") and will follow Johnny Utah as he infiltrates a gang of bank robbers who are also extreme sports junkies. In the original film, the late and great Patrick Swayze played Bodhi, the leader of a spiritual group of surfers who also dabbled with extreme sports like skydiving. I hope they aren't ditching the surf boards completely this round. That incorporation was one of the staple parts of the first film.

Kathryn Bigelow first gave us the classic that still very much holds up today. Since Hollywood feels nothing is sacred and needs to remake everything, hopefully they don't butcher it too badly.

We know Butler has played a surf bum in "Chasing Mavericks" and rather well, to his credit. Does Bracey have what it takes to step into the large shoes of Mr. Reeves? While his acting skills may not be too hard to beat, he certainly made Johnny Utah the iconic film legend he is today.
