It's always a good sign when a director is locked to continue on with a franchise, when the latest installment hasn't even been released yet. We aren't exactly surprised that Marc Webb will continue to direct "The Amazing Spider-Man 3", but it certainly instills confidence that his upcoming second film is going to be great.
Let's just hope what happened with Sam Raimi's awful excuse for "Spider-Man 3" does not happen with Webb's. Emo Peter Parker, then played by Tobey Maguire, made comic-book fans everywhere cringe. But I do have faith that they won't travel down that path, given the expanded universe that they have filled us in on. We have already been alerted that standalone "Venom" and "Sinister Six" films are both on the way, opening the door for many more epic battles and evil adversaries for Spidey and team to fight.
The second film "Rise of Electro" will reunite us with the latest web-slinging hero, Andrew Garfield, his love interest Gwen, played by Emma Stone, and several other familiar faces. We will also be introduced to the evil namesake Electro (Jamie Foxx), a new Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan) and The Rhino (Paul Giamatti).
Will the third film introduce Mary-Jane as Webb and team eluded to? Will she be played by Shailene Woodley or will a new actress step into the role? Many questions yet to be answered but I'm really looking forward to the expanded Spidey universe.
Are you glad Webb is returning? Let us know in the comments section below!
