We are just a couple of months away from the release of Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2". We will be reunited with Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), Gwen Stacy and many other familiar faces. We will also be introduced to some new villains including Electro (Jamie Foxx), The Rhino (Paul Giamatti) and The Green Goblin (Dane DeHaan). Sony confirmed their intention on expanding the universe and leading into a standalone "Venom" and "Sinister Six" film. They also confirmed release dates for two more Spidey installments after the next release. It looks like the fourth film will need to find a new director however, as just revealed by Webb himself.
In a recent interview, Webb stated, "I''d like to be involved as a consultant, and I’ve already talked to these guys about it, but in terms of directing it, that will close out my tenure. I’ve had so much fun doing it, but after the third movie, it’ll be the time to find something else."
While he's done a great job with the first film and the second looks wonderful too, I can definitely respect the standpoint of wanting to not go beyond the trilogy. Christopher Nolan, Sam Raimi and many other directors have shared the same sentiment.
Will they then choose to just reboot the franchise again at that point, with new blood altogether? Or will they just find a new director to continue with Garfield and the actors already intact?
Lots of questions to be answered but first things first; we can't wait for the second installment from Webb.
