The Winners of the 2014 Academy Awards

By Amirose Eisenbach March 3, 2014

The Academy Awards are like Christmas or Hanukah for film fans. Honoring the best achievements in performances, visuals, sound, direction and so on, thousands of celebrities attend, all dressed to the nines. Ellen DeGeneres hosted the awards ceremony this year, in Hollywood's Dolby Theater. The show was rather tame, especially compared to Seth MacFarlane's take last year. DeGeneres delivered a few jokes here and there, as well as pizza to the actors in the first few rows. She also took a selfie with some of the top A-list talent, which temporarily broke Twitter and set the record for the most amount of retweets.

The big winner this year was Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity", which took home 7 total awards, including best director. Steve McQueen's "12 Years a Slave" took home several awards as well, including the most prestigious award of the night with best picture of the year.
