Channing Tatum is definitely one of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now and helps to open movies in a big way. When you're experiencing the kind of fame that Tatum is right now, naturally he would plant the seed for his next dream role. He has done just that with X-Men's Gambit character, which was previously played briefly by Taylor Kitsch in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".
On the prospect, Tatum stated, "Gambit's really the only X-Men I've ever loved. I don't know, I guess just being from down south...I just related to him. He's suave. He's the most un-X-Man X-Man that's ever been in X-Men -- other than maybe Wolverine. He's kind of the antihero; he's a thief. He's not even a hero. He's walking the line of gray."
Sure, Tatum is good at action and also wonderful at comedy, as recently seen in "21 Jump Street". Does he have what it takes though to perfect a Cajun accent and play a member of one of the most famous superhero ensembles ever?
While it's wishful thinking, Tatum doesn't even know if the film will get off the ground. "I hope it [comes together]," he said. "If the stars align, I would die to play it."
Well the not-so-subtle hint has been dropped and if the studio wants to capitalize on Tatum's star-power, we may be seeing a Gambit movie sooner than later. I personally don't see him in the character but his passion is indeed intact, so perhaps he could do him justice in the end.
