The first set photo has been released for Duncan Jones' "Warcraft". Based on the massively popular video-game franchise, this project has been in development for so long, many didn't think it would actually come to fruition. Well, now we have proof that it's officially on the way.
Jones emerged on the scene in a big way with his Sam Rockwell-starring sci-fi adventure "Moon". He followed that critically acclaimed gem with "Source Code", which was also positively received. His style and technique, not to mention attention to details, should prove to be a great marriage for the content.
The film stars Paula Patton, Ben Foster, Dominic Cooper, Toby Kebbell, Travis Fimmel and several others. Besides Patton, they are pretty unconventional actors, which for a project like this, is definitely a good thing.
Video-game adaptations don't exactly have the best track record to date. The two most successful franchises that come to mind are "Resident Evil" and "Tomb Raider", but even those have their issues. Michael Fassbender's "Assassin's Creed" should hopefully help raise the bar and I have great faith in Jones' talent, so perhaps the game is about to change. After all, the content and story lines from so many video-games are rich and complex and lend themselves incredibly well to be adapted for the screen. That is, if they can do them right, and so far, we are still holding our breath.
The film will reportedly follow "the story of Anduin Lothar versus Durotan, Human and Orc heroes from the original real-time strategy games." It is currently filming in Vancouver.
