GOOSEBUMPS Movie Begins Production Starring Jack Black

By Amirose Eisenbach April 24, 2014

People of my generation certainly remember The Goosebumps book series. The kid-friendly horror adventures were unique and memorable and were created by author R.L. Stein. We heard murmors of a film based on the series being in development for some time now but now the film has actually kick-off production.

Jack Black is portraying the author himself. Dylan Minnette, Amy Ryan, Odeya Rush, Ryan Lee, Jillian Bell and Ken Marino are also starring. Black has the perfect balance of kookiness and mystery to pull it off and has definitely proven he can do more than just comedy over the years, despite a few missteps in some projects.

The film will focus on Stein as he creates this magical book series. The official synopsis has also just been revealed, which you can check out below:

In Goosebumps, upset about moving from a big city to a small town, teenager Zach Cooper (Dylan Minnette) finds a silver lining when he meets the beautiful girl, Hannah (Odeya Rush), living right next door. But every silver lining has a cloud, and Zach’s comes when he learns that Hannah has a mysterious dad who is revealed to be R. L. Stine (Jack Black), the author of the bestselling Goosebumps series. It turns out that there is a reason why Stine is so strange… he is a prisoner of his own imagination – the monsters that his books made famous are real, and Stine protects his readers by keeping them locked up in their books. When Zach unintentionally unleashes the monsters from their manuscripts and they begin to terrorize the town, it’s suddenly up to Stine, Zach, and Hannah to get all of them back in the books where they belong.
