It seems like every movie there for a couple years had Jessica Chastain in it. No complaints here. She is supremely talented, versatile and absolutely gorgeous. The last big feature film we saw her in was the Guillermo del Toro-produced thriller "Mama", and Kathryn Bigelow's "Zero Dark Thirty" before that, which earned her the Academy Award for best actress. Now the redheaded beauty has her sights set on something a bit more, blonde.
A new Marilyn Monroe project is in the works from Andrew Dominik and Chastain has snagged the role of the silver-screen starlet. The screenplay is based on Joyce Carol Oates novel "Blonde", which will be the name of the new film as well.
It was only three years ago when Michelle Williams earned an Academy Award nomination for her portrayal of Monroe in "My Week With Marilyn". This project seems like it will focus more on how Monroe shed her Norma Jeane roots and became the film icon and sexpot that she was immortalized as.
You can check out the official synopsis of the book below:
In this ambitious book, Joyce Carol Oates boldly reimagines the inner, poetic, and spiritual life of Norma Jeane Baker—the child, the woman, the fated celebrity and idolized blonde the world came to know as Marilyn Monroe. In a voice startling, intimate, and rich, Norma Jeane tells her own story, that of an emblematic American artist—intensely conflicted and driven—who has lost her way. A powerful portrait of Hollywood's myth and an extraordinary woman's heartbreaking reality, Blonde is a sweeping epic that pays tribute to the elusive magic and devastation behind the creation of the great twentieth-century American star.
Chastain has proven she can do drama, comedy, action and everything in between. I look forward to seeing her tackle an iconic character like this.
