We learned earlier this week by Disney head Alan Horn that the production of J.J. Abrams "Star Wars: Episode VII" may have already started filming. This was a very interesting reveal indeed, as we have heard almost nothing about what actors will be included in the film. We did just receive a rather joyous confirmation however, that we will be seeing the return of our favorite Wookiee and the original actor that played him.
Peter Mayhew will be reprising his role as Chewbacca, making him the first official returning cast member from the original trilogy. We all anticipate that Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher will also return and they have teased as much. But nothing has been officially announced on that front yet to relieve their eager fans.
It was confirmed a few weeks ago that everyone's favorite lovable droid R2-D2, would be returning. I would anticipate his buddy C-3PO will also be returning, so then we'll have the big three mascots of sorts all locked in.
Adam Driver from "Girls" is the only name we've heard that was close to signing for the role of the villain. True to Disney as well as Abrams' form, until it's locked, we really just don't know what they have in store for us.
Locking Mayhew is certainly a big deal to uphold the magic and nostalgia of the original trilogy. I have great faith in Abrams and producer Kathleen Kennedy. I just want some casting news, pretty please, with sugar on top. We certainly have been incredibly patient.
Are you happy Mayhew returning? Let us know in the comments section below!
