This has shaped up to be a gigantic week of news for film fans. We got our "Star Wars: Episode VII" casting announcement, the confirmation that Zack Snyder is directing an upcoming "Justice League" film, and now the teasing of a whole slew of other upcoming D.C. titles.
Other than Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Trilogy" and "Man of Steel", D.C. needs to seriously add some weight to their cinematic universe. There are so many amazing characters that have been wasted in the archives, instead of shining on the big-screen. Especially compared to Marvel's slate, which is already well into Phase 2, with a whole heap of incredible films and characters under their belt.
Now, Warner Bros. appears to have a real plan to expand their film universe, which is exactly what fans have been waiting for. A recent interview revealed exactly what to expect in the near future.
"Warner Bros. has several other movies in development unconnected to the Justice League that are based on DC superheroes and fantasy and crime titles from its Vertigo line of genre comics, said Mr. Silverman and Toby Emmerich, president of Warner’s New Line Cinema label. They include 'Shazam,' 'Metal Men,' '100 Bullets,' and 'Fables.'"
The wonderful Guillermo del Toro has been talking about a "Justice League Dark" film for many moons now. He teased the universe expanding but up to this point, it was just a hope that lived in our hearts and not concrete assurance.
The confirmation of "JL" as well a the titles above, definitely make WB a much bigger player in the superhero game. The characters within their universe are incredible, so it's nice to see they are finally starting to take it seriously and display some guts.
