We heard a ways back that a "Chronicle 2" was indeed on the way but that writer Max Landis and director Josh Trank would not be returning. Landis went on to describe the direction he wanted the story to go, had he stuck with the picture, and it was very dark and pretty cool. It's been rather quiet on this front and now a new scribe has officially been hired.
Writer Jack Stanley has been hired to continue the story for Fox. Dane DeHaan and Michael B. Jordan first emerged on the scene with "Chronicle" and have both gone on to have very successful careers. They will not be returning to the sequel for reasons pertaining to how the story ended, however.
Stanley has no previous big-screen writing credits to his name, which seems like an interesting choice to replace Landis, who did such a great job with the first. All the main pieces from the original including Landis, Trank, DeHaan and Jordan will not be returning. Is it possible they will be able to draw the same kind of pull that the original did or would they be more successful trying something similar but exploring a new story? Only time will tell but hiring a no-name writer is perhaps a risky move.
