Channing Tatum is certainly on a hot streak, coming off the heat of such films as "White House Down" and "21 Jump Street". He has openly been lobbying to play Gambit from the X-Men and now it appears his fishing may have worked out, as it appears he is close to landing the gig.
"He’s a rogue. Channing, he’s a rascal, just like Remy LeBeau," said producer Lauren Shuler Donner. She is the same person that teased how he was perfect for the role, weeks prior. Donner continued, "And he can handle the action. We all know that. And he’s got a really good heart."
Last month, Tatum continued his campaign of spreading interest ,"I met with Lauren Shuler Donner. I would love [to]. Gambit’s really the only X-Men that I’ve ever loved. I love them all. They’re all great. I don’t know," he said. "I guess being from down south…I just related to him. He’s the most un-X-Men X-Men that’s ever been in X-Men, other than maybe Wolverine."
His passion is definitely intact and I think he has proven that he does have talent and can indeed carry a movie. Does Tatum have what it takes to be Gambit though? This is certainly a controversial casting for many X-Men fans but perhaps our desire to have the amazing character of Gambit back on the screen, after Taylor Kitsch's short stint as the character in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", is worth the gamble.
