Quentin Tarantino has cemented himself as not only a cult-classic favorite but has also bridged the gap to being appreciated by the mainstream public. His incredible dialogue, quirky characters and interesting situations are always unique and memorable. So when word hits that Tarantino is working on a new project, all ears are wide open. Such was the case with his new spaghetti western "The Hateful Eight", until the script leaked and Tarantino was outraged, causing him to pause production completely.
A few weeks ago, Tarantino lead a live reading of the original script with an incredible cast, in front of an audience, to exceptional results. Was this a sign of life being breathed back into the production? Luckily, the answer appears to be yes.
At the Cannes Film Festival, Tarantino told reporters that he had "calmed down" after feeling massively betrayed from the script leak and his decision to stop moving ahead with it. Tarantino revealed that he plans on reworking the script a third time and will start shooting as early as later this year.
Tarantino always attracts top-tier talent and if the same players from the live-read are in the film, they would include Samuel L. Jackson, Bruce Dern, Michael Madsen, Kurt Russell, James Remar, Amber Tamblyn, Walt Goggins, and Zoe Bell. You may notice that a recent Tarantino regular, Christoph Waltz, is not amongst the cast members. The two certainly make magic together, as certified by Waltz's two Academy Awards he won for their collaborations, for "Inglourious Basterds" and for "Django Unchained".
Tarantino is one of the best writer/directors on the scene and I for one am so pleased that we're still going to get to travel back to the west for another one of his original projects.
