According to the Hollywood Reporter, "Iron Man 3" and "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" director Shane Black has been brought on by 20th Century Fox to both write the treatment for and direct a "Predator" reboot. Once Black has the story finished, he'll hand it off to "RoboCop 3" director Fred Dekker to pen the script.
Black and Dekker worked on "Monster Squad" together, so this could prove to be another solid collaboration. Many that may have scoffed at the idea of rebooting this again, may remain more cautiously optimistic since the mastermind behind "Lethal Weapon" is attached to it.
Black actually had a cameo in the 1987 original version which starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and was directed by John McTiernan. The franchise has since continued on in various forms, with the sequel "Predator 2", two "Alien" franchise crossovers with "Alien vs. Predator" and "AvP: Requiem", and then the most recent reboot "Predators" in 2010, which starred Adrien Brody.
The most recent film was met with pretty mixed reviews, so it will be interesting to see what the fan reaction will be to the new rebooted project once new details start to emerge. Either way, Black certainly has an immense amount of talent, so I may give this one the benefit of the doubt until proven otherwise.
