The weekend box office numbers are in and "The Fault in Our Stars" was the big winner taking the #1 spot with over $48 million dollars, surpassing even the most optimistic projections it had. Based on John Green's book, the film starred the lovely Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort.
In the #2 spot was "Maleficent" in its second week, taking in $33.5 million, which brings its 2 week worldwide total up to over $335 million. Angelina Jolie took a break from directing films to star in this untold tale of the most famous Disney villain.
In the #3 spot was the new Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt sci-fi adventure "Edge of Tomorrow", which took is just over $29 million. This film was one of the best sci-fi installments in years and has been receiving positive reviews across the board, so I'm hopeful word of mouth will help its 2nd and 3rd weeks be successful.
In the #4 spot is "X-Men: Days of Future Past", making $14.7 million, bringing its 3 week worldwide total to just under $610 million dollars. This film has become the highest grossing "X-Men" film to date and with good reason. It truly is an incredible film, even for fans unfamiliar with the content or not interested in comic-books.
Rounding out the top 5 is "A Million Ways to Die in the West". This was Seth MacFarlane's follow-up to his smash hit "Ted", making just over $7 million, bringing its worldwide total after 2 weeks up to $50 million.
