Jamie Foxx has more than proven he is a world-class actor with incredible range. With an Oscar under his belt for his moving performance as Ray Charles in "Ray", his hilarious comedic chops as seen in films such as "Horrible Bosses" and his badass side as witnessed in "Django Unchained", it appears the actor can do anything.
Now it's being reported that Foxx will go back to the realm of biopics as Mike Tyson has now revealed that he will play him in an upcoming project. Tyson reportedly handpicked Foxx to play him. And why not? You might as well shoot for the stars.
Tyson stated, "Me and Jamie Foxx are in discussion, and we gonna do it. Within a year to 18 months, we’re going to do the Mike Tyson story and he’s going to portray me, and now they have this new animation; because you know Jamie’s pretty much my age so he can’t portray me but they have this new system."
Foxx is obviously an incredible talent but does it make sense to use CGI to make him younger, opposed to just getting a younger actor to take on the role? Tyson has a lot of skeletons in his closet, including physical and sexual abuse towards woman and being known as one of the most violent boxers in the ring. I wonder how white-washed the film will be, which is often the case with biopics in Hollywood. Or if Tyson will consent to showing all aspects of his fame, even the negativity and controversy.
Terence Winter, known for his writing and producing credits on such films as "The Wolf of Wall Street" and "The Sopranos" series, is a co-producer on the film. There have been murmurs from Tyson stating that Martin Scorsese would also be involved in some capacity but we may want to just throw that to the rumor mill for now, until it's further substantiated.
If this project does come to fruition, there is certainly no lack of talent. It will be interesting to see how this one unfolds.
