Roberto Orci, who was recently announced as the new director taking over for J.J. Abrams for the third "Star Trek" film, has revealed that he is no longer attached to "The Amazing Spider-Man" series. He co-wrote Marc Webb's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", which was met with pretty disappointing results. That didn't stop the film from passing the $700 million mark in worldwide box office sales this past weekend.

Orci was previously announced to be a part of the ongoing brain trust to write and develop "Spider-Man 3" and "Spider-Man 4", as well as "Sinister Six" and "Venom" films. Orci also revealed that he does not know what Sony’s future plans are now regarding the web-slinger.

In an interview with IGN, Orci stated, "I’m not officially involved in [The Amazing Spider-Man 3]. I don’t know what their plans are for that franchise. I don’t ever want to say never, but we have to figure out what their scheduling is in terms of when they want each movie. I’ve read probably as much as anyone else. There’s a love for ‘The Sinister Six,’ the idea of ‘Venom’ — there’s an idea of Spider-Man’s going to be one of these characters that’s part of our business. He’s such a popular character. Spider-Man’s not going to go away any time soon. When it all happens and how and all that has yet to be determined. I don’t want to say anything about what they should do. I don’t want them to think I’m spilling the beans about something."

Despite Orci not being involved in the huge Sony franchise anymore, Alex Kurtzman and Jeff Pinkner are still currently set to pen "The Amazing Spider-Man 3" and Kurtzman and Ed Solomon eill write "Venom". Drew Goddard, who brought us the fantastic "The Cabin in the Woods", is still set to write and direct "Sinister Six", so there is still plenty of hope left for the franchise and spin-offs.
