Seth Rogen and James Franco have been in some pretty outrageous and funny films together and the upcoming "The Interview" appears to be no different. The film was slated to release on October 10th, 2014 and has now moved to a Christmas Day release, December 25th.
When a film pushes back, it's usually a minor cause for alarm because it's telling the audience that the studio may not have as much faith in it as originally projected. In the case of a Christmas release, it is quite the opposite. Christmas Day and the holidays in general are a very busy time at the movies for families and people on break.
Other Christmas Day releases this year include "Hot Tub Time Machine 2", the classic musical "Into the Woods", "Paddington", and Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken". A diverse range of genres are already represented, including comedy, but these gents certainly have a solid box office draw at this point.
Rory Bruer, the President of Worldwide Distribution at Sony, had this to say on the matter:
"The combination of Seth (Rogen), Evan (Goldberg), and James (Franco) is pure comedic magic. In our early screenings of The Interview, we've seen that they've delivered yet again, and we're thrilled to be making the move to Christmas - one of the most important moviegoing days of the year and the perfect date to show off their brand of comedy."
I completely agree about his statement regarding Rogen, Goldberg and Franco. They have certainly hit their comedic stride and "This is the End" remains one of the best comedies in the last few years, followed by Rogen and Goldberg's "Neighbors", which was also a gem. Hopefully "The Interview" will keep these boys on top.
