Alex Winter Gives BILL & TED 3 Update

By Amirose Eisenbach September 26, 2014

Over two decades have passed since the second film in the "Bill and Ted" series, which starred Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, was released. There has been talks of a third film for quite some time and now according to Winter, armed with "Galaxy Quest" director Dean Parisot, the film is definitely coming.

Winter has been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff for Comedy Central but undoubtedly wants to return as the character that made him famous. Reeves has been getting rave reviews from his work in "John Wick" and jokingly made a lot of people hopeful for a "Speed 3". It appears he is getting back on the good side of the public and returning to an iconic and silly role like this, could be a really fun time for him, as well as the audience.

On the potential plot, Winter had this to say:

"[Bill & Ted] will be 40-something and it's all about Bill and Ted grown up, or not grown up. It's really sweet and really f-----g funny. But, it's a Bill & Ted movie, that's what it is. It's for the fans of Bill & Ted. It fits very neatly in the series. It's not going to feel like a reboot.

The conceit is really funny: What if you're middle-aged, haven't really grown up and you're supposed to have saved the world and maybe, just maybe, you kinda haven't?

There's many versions of ourselves in this movie. [It's] answering the question: 'What happened to these guys?' They're supposed to have done all this stuff, they weren't the brightest bulbs on the tree, what happened 20 years later? To answer that question in a comedic way felt rich with possibility."

"Galaxy Quest" was a great sci-fi spoof, so Parisot feels like a solid fit for this project. Getting the two leads back after all these years is also the only way to pull something like this off. As for the plot? Why not. It sounds oddball and quirky enough, that if it was written pretty well, could definitely be pulled off.
