Despite being only a couple months shy of being a full year away from the release of Alan Taylor's "Terminator: Genisys", two new dates have been set for sequels. "Terminator 2" will hit theatres on May 19, 2017 and "Terminator 3" will release on June 29, 2018. As we saw with the upcoming installment, those are just placeholder titles which will undoubtedly change.
The new film will see the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger as the infamous T-800, as well as Jason Clarke, Emilia Clarke, Jai Courtney and J.K. Simmons. Laeta Kalogridis and Patrick Lussier penned the script and "Thor 2" helmer Taylor should certainly bring a fresh perspective to the franchise.
The last film under the "Terminator" umbrella was McG's "Terminator: Salvation", which starred Christian Bale. Few may have still enjoyed it but it's pretty widely regarded as a miss. The universe of the Terminators, Sarah Connor and the rest of the crew is incredibly rich. The next installment is believed to make enough money and be enough of a hit to warrant two sequels. It was compared tonally to "T2" by Schwarzenegger, so that does keep our excitement very much intact.
