Ruben Fleischer's hilarious gem "Zombieland", hit theatres just five years ago and was a big success. The film boasted the talent of Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg and Emma Stone. Several attempts for an Amazon series or sequel have been made since then but nothing concrete has been lifted off the ground. Now it appears some real action has been taken to continue the franchise.
Sony Pictures just hired screenwriter Dave Callaham to pen the sequel script, under the supervision of Fleischer, who will return to helm. Callaham's most notable credits include "The Expendables" and more recently "Jackpot", which is said to be the reason why he was chosen for this one. That project is said to be a darkly comic tale, which tonally should fit in line nicely with what a "Zombieland" sequel would entail.
No word yet on whether any of the original cast members would return. All of their careers have since soared, so unless it was a passion project for them, I'm not sure if they would be interested in it. Would it still have the same kind of magic if they didn't sign on? Only time will tell but the studio is certainly banking on the hope that it could.
