Director Richard Linklater will receive the Sony Bono Visionary Award at next year’s Palm Springs International Film Festival. The award will be given out at the annual Awards Gala, which next year will be held on Saturday Jan 3, at the Palm Springs Convention Center.
This award is the latest fuel to the Oscar buzz fire for Linklater, whose film “Boyhood” has been receiving awards attention since opening to fantastic reviews in July. The movie had the most nominations for Monday’s Gotham Independent Film Awards, and scored five nominations for the 2015 Film Independent Spirit Awards.
The Palm Springs International Film Festival is an important event in the Oscar calendar, as many of the 100,000 attendees are Oscar voters, whose ballots are due within days of the festival. Previous winners of the Visionary Award include Quentin Tarantino, Danny Boyle and Tom Hooper.
Other already announced recipients of awards at the gala include Julianne Moore, Rosamund Pike, Eddie Redmayne and J.K. Simmons.
