We heard murmurs back in October about a Janis Joplin biopic on the horizon with "Dallas Buyers Club" helmer Jean-Marc Vallée directing. Now it appears it is full-speed ahead with Amy Adams portraying the legendary music icon.
Many have stated that Adams is too old to play her since she is already 40 and Joplin sadly died from drug overdue when she was only 27. But from the crazy times she lived through, Joplin certainly looked much older than her age. Match that with Adams' youthful looks and a little movie magic and it really shouldn't be an issue.
Vallée's "Wild" starring Reese Witherspoon is opening in just a couple weeks and he just wrapped production on "Demolition" with Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts. Certainly adding a musical biopic like this one is a great move to really round out his impressive and diverse career.
Adams has the talent and the pipes, as we saw in "Enchanted" and she actually bears a physical resemblance to Joplin as well. If she can get the grit down and really lose herself in this amazing role it could really be something special. Vallée knows how to bring out the best in his actors so the partnership of these two, should be really exciting to watch.
