Following the official title reveal last week for "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens", we now have some more fun news about a a new film that would fall under the blanket of our favorite galaxy far, far away. In a recent interview with A.J. Edwards, the director revealed that a spin-off film focusing on a character we may never have guessed could be in his future.
When asked if there was any truth to the rumors, Edwards stated, "Talking about it, not able to say a lot yet. It will focus on Mace Windu."
This tease naturally sent fanboys into a frenzy. Would Windu make a good subject to base an entire film around? The character was played by Samuel L. Jackson in the prequels. Would he be reprising his role at some point or would they solely focus on a younger actor to play out his backstory?
Chances are, Edwards was joking because he's probably sworn to secrecy about the real news and he knew it would spread like wildfire. But the interesting part is that it definitely sounds like he is in conversations to direct a film.
Edwards just made his directorial debut with "The Better Angels". Gareth Edwards and Josh Trank, two relatively smaller directors, have been brought on to direct spin-offs. Locking another director, like this Edwards, doesn't feel like a far-fetched idea from the team that likes to lock in unconventional choices.
