We knew Warner Bros. was looking for a female director to helm the standalone "Wonder Woman" film starring Gal Gadot. Now it appears they have found their woman, in the form of Michelle MacLaren.
That name might not ring a bell initially but it's a safe bet to say that you've probably seen some of her work. She has directed episodes of some of the biggest and most praised shows, like "Game of Thrones", "Breaking Bad" and "The Walking Dead". All very large-scale and intricate productions with a lot of moving parts.
Gadot will make her debut as the Amazonian princess in Zach Snyder's "Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice". There is already a lot of criticism surrounding the casting, so how she is received in that film will certainly lay down the cement for the potentially tough road ahead for MacLaren.
I'm glad WB decided to stand behind a female director to helm one of the most famous and beloved female superheroes. It also adds another layer of pressure however, because if the films fails, unfortunately gender will be a huge part of the criticism. You better believe MacLaren is all-too-aware of this fact and she is determined to churn out one hell of a good film.
Please don't let us down, MacLaren. We've been waiting for so long for this one and so much more than one good film rides on this being amazing.
