Universal Says Three More Films Projected After FURIOUS 7

By Amirose Eisenbach November 17, 2014

The production of "Fast and Furious 7", which is now called "Furious 7", has not been an easy one to get off the ground. After the tragic death of Paul Walker, the film was delayed and those associated with the studio and the franchise came together to figure out the best way to continue the film. The result was issuing the help of Walker's brothers to finish his scenes and give him a proper send-off. But what's next for the franchise after this next installment releases?

Universal Pictures' chairman Donna Langley has announced that more films are definitely the goal, even sans Walker. It's hard to be surprised by this news. These films have continued to build steam and rack up a ton of money, so what incentive does the studio have to stop milking the adrenaline-infused cow?

In a recent interview, Langley stated, "We think there's at least three more. Paul is, and always will be, an integral part of the story. But there are many other great characters, and it's also an opportunity to introduce new characters. I think it's still a growing franchise. We'll see what happens with Furious 7, obviously, but our box office has grown over the past three or four films and internationally, in particular. So we think that there's more to mine there. But we're of course very mindful about fatigue."

Glad the studio brought up the other f-word, fatigue. Will audiences tire of this franchise? They are certainly not in it for the rich and intricate plots, that's for sure. Fast cars, beautiful people, cheesy lines and ridiculous situations are indeed fun to explore as an audience member. All are anchored by a great and lively cast, even without Walker, who helped make the franchise popular.

If they are using "Furious 7" as the benchmark on whether to move forward or not, it's safe to say they will. That film is about to make a ton of money. With James Wan taking over this round, the franchise continuing to gain momentum and it being Walker's final film, get the cha-ching sounds ready, Universal.
