Benedict Cumberbatch Confirmed to Play DOCTOR STRANGE

By Amirose Eisenbach December 8, 2014

Another big confirmation in the form of Benedict Cumberbatch as "Doctor Strange" has also been officially announced. He has been on the shortlist of potentials for months and was acknowledged as a frontrunner many weeks ago. So again, it's not really a surprise but it's nice when the speculation can stop and we can actually talk about him playing the upcoming role.

The film is being directed by Scott Derrickson, working from a script from Jon Spaihts. Derrickson has mastered the suspense and horror genres, which should serve as a great asset to help bring this darker story and character to the big-screen.

The mastmind behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Kevin Feige, spoke about the casting announcement. He stated, "Stephen Strange’s story requires an actor capable of great depth and sincerity. In 2016, Benedict will show audiences what makes Doctor Strange such a unique and compelling character."

Coming off his fun role of voicing and doing the performance-capture for Smaug in "The Hobbit" series and getting a lot of Oscar buzz for portraying Alan Turing in "The Imitation Game", Cumberbatch continues to rapidly be on the rise. He comes off as a highly intelligent man and does the mad-genius thing very well, which should fit very well for the Sorcerer Supreme.
