AMCi: Geena Davis Launches A New Film Festival

By Alicia Malone January 6, 2015

Oscar winning actress Geena Davis has announced the launch of the Bentonville Film Festival, a new event designed to celebrate women and diversity in film. The festival will take place between May 5-9 in Bentonville, Arkansas, and will screen 75 movies in total, ranging from studio movies to indie flicks and documentaries.

The festival is being chaired by Geena Davis, with an advisory board made up of actors such as Angela Bassett, Bruce Dern, Samuel L. Jackson, Eva Longoria, Julianne Moore, Paula Patton, Natalie Portman, Shailene Woodley and more. The sponsors include ARC Entertainment, Walmart, Coca-Cola and AMC Theatres.

About the festival, Geena Davis says, “I have been an advocate for women for most of my adult life. The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media is dedicated to improving the representation in gender and diversity of talent, filmmakers, and business leaders by growing awareness through research, education and advocacy. The Bentonville Film Festival is a critical component of how we can directly impact the quantity and quality of females and minorities on screen and behind-the scenes.”

Films which receive awards at the Bentonville Film Festival will be guaranteed a theatrical release in AMC Theatres, giving great opportunities for new indie directors.
