AMCi: Sundance Winners Revealed

By Alicia Malone February 2, 2015

The Sundance Film Festival is over for another year, with the winners announced during the closing night ceremony.

The major winner was the most buzzed about film of the festival - ‘Me And Earl And The Dying Girl’, bought by Fox Searchlight for distribution after a fierce bidding war. The film took out the U.S. Dramatic Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award, with director Alfonso Gomez-Rejon dedicating the award to young filmmakers in his hometown of Laredo, Texas.

The Directing Award went to Robert Eggers for the period horror flick, ’The Witch’, while the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award was given to Tim Talbott for ‘The Stanford Prison Experiment’, which stars Billy Crudup, Ezra Miller and The Sheriden, centered on a crazy social experiment conducted in the 1970’s.

In the Documentary section, ‘The Wolfpack’ won the U.S. Grand Jury Prize. While collecting the award director Crystal Moselle joked about how she had stalked the kids at the center of her film - the Angulo brothers, six boys who have spent their whole lives inside a Manhatten housing project, learning about the outside world from watching movies.
