Michael B. Jordan continues to really expand his range and abilities. He captivated audiences with the powerful "Fruitvale Station" in 2013. He dabbled with a lighthearted, quirky comedy in "That Awkward Moment" last year and soon he'll be starring as The Human Torch in "Fant4stic Four" this Summer. Now a release date has been set for yet another film adventure the ambitious actor is taking on.
In the form of a "Rocky" spinoff film, "Creed" will center around Jordan as the son of Apollo Creed, the main opponent of Sylvester Stallone's character in the original series. Stallone will unsurprisingly be in the film as well.
Ryan Coogler, who directed "Fruitvale Station", will be re-teaming with his lead to direct this one. He helped Jordan really shine in that film and I'm looking forward to seeing what they will come up with in this context.
A release date of November 25th has now been set for the film. A competitive date indeed, over a busy Thanksgiving Weekend. That means it will open opposite Pixar's "The Good Dinosaur", "Ridley Scott's "The Martian", Jeff Nichols' "Midnight Special" and a currently untitled X-Mas Comedy starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Seth Rogen.
As amazing and classic the "Rocky" films are, I can't say I've been waiting for a sequel or spin-off. With the addition of Jordan and Coogler at the helm however, it certainly becomes a more interesting venture.
