Simon Kinberg Chats Potential X-MEN and FANTASTIC FOUR Crossover

By Amirose Eisenbach February 2, 2015

Writer Simon Kinberg has been a busy man these days, working on several huge blockbuster properties. The first is Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four", which just debuted the first trailer last week. The second is "X-Men: Apocalypse", which we couldn't be more excited about after the incredible "X-Men: Days of Future Past". Courtesy of Kinberg, we now have new updates for both films and the potential crossover that we've all been waiting for.

According to the writer himself, "The reboot of ‘FanFour’ really needed to work in and of itself. We were doing something pretty radical with the tone of the movie. If we wanted to find a way to connect them to the X-Men, we could. There’s a lot of precedent from the comics."

There sure is, good sir. It feels like a waste to not connect these two huge properties that live under the Fox umbrella. As long as they do it right and smoothly, that is. The first "FF" trailer was heavily rooted in the sci-fi realm, which could prove to be a great launchpad to tie-in with the mutants and their magical abilities. It could also be a solid way for the studio to stay in the superhero ensemble game, the way Marvel has done with their Avengers and WB is ramping up to do with their Justice League.

Sticking with the topics of updates, Kinberg also confirmed that Rose Byrne's character Moira MacTaggert would be returning to "X-Men: Apocalypse". He stated, "(she’s) a significant character in the movie. We ended First Class with Charles having wiped portions of her memory of her experience with the X-Men. They are, essentially, strangers to her when she meets them. It’s certainly a rich relationship that we started to dig into in First Class, and would like to mine more in this one."

Exciting stuff on the horizon for both of these Fox properties. Happy that Singer is returning to helm the next X-Men installment and despite all the controversy surrounding Trank's film, we're liking our first glimpse of "Fantastic Four". More great updates to look forward to, film fans.
