Hugh Jackman Officially Hanging Up the Claws After WOLVERINE 3?

By Amirose Eisenbach March 30, 2015

Hugh Jackman has certainly been playing with our emotions when it comes to continuing on with his beloved rendition of Wolverine. He stated before that "Wolverine 3" would be his last time as the character but then recently said he wants to find a way to "play Wolverine until I die", after seeing Michael Keaton in "Birdman". That appears to have changed yet again.

Jackman released a photo on his Instagram page with Wolverine's claws coming out of one hand, with the words, "WOLVERINE…ONE LAST TIME. HJ" accompanying the photo.

Sure, he's appeared as the character seven times already since 2000 and he's 46-years-old. But the actor is in some seriously amazing shape and there is still so much they could do with him. I personally was still hoping for an Old Man Logan storyline but perhaps that's what we'll get with Mangold's "Wolverine 3".

Jackman was the centerfold of the last amazing Bryan Singer film "X-Men: Days of Future Past". Wolverine is what made the story cohesive and we saw a side to the character that we haven't see on the big-screen before.

There is a release date for a currently untitled Wolverine film for March 3, 2017. Singer's next film in the franchise "X-Men: Apocalypse" will release on May 27, 2016. It hasn't been confirmed yet if Jackman's Wolverine will appear in that film or not but if "W3" will definitely be his last, I hope for the sake of us loyal fans that we get two more films with him. Even if it's just a cameo.

Now the question that is back on everyone's mind is, will they retire the character for a stint and see what Channing Tatum's Gambit and Ryan Reynold's Deadpool can do for the absence? Or will they recast a younger version of Logan and introduce a new generation to the amazing character?

Only time will tell but we will miss you, Jackman. Thanks for doing Logan the proper justice he deserved.
